MATLOCK RIVERSIDE

Matlock Riverside is a semi-temporary wooden platform located about one quarter of a mile outside the railways southern goal of Matlock station which is operated by Network Rail, the platform here was rebuilt from the redundant Chee-Dale halt which Peak Rail ran services in connection with British Rail to in the early 1990s , recently there has been an extensive programme of local redevelopment works around the area in connection with a new superstore, bypass ,transport interchange and housing developments and it is Peak Rail`s goal in association with the works to get into the unused platform at the station at Matlock Network Rail one quater of a mile further on to interconnect with the services from the national network.Plans are at a very advanced stage as of the start of 2008 and talks are underway with both H.M.R.I/O.R.R and Network Rail together with local councils and other parties towards concluding the talks and starting the construction of any extra signalling and infrastructure needed to get Peak Rail trains or National Network Trains onto each others operating infrastructures, this should happen within 2008.It is envisaged that Peak Rail will install some basic signalling to facilitate the running of trains from its own infrastructure onto Network Rails line to Matlock station and to assist in shunting works at Riverside, possibly a small shunting frame worked by the traincrew or similar, the plans at the moment are subject to finalisation so I cannot put the details up at present. This page will be updated as these works progress to include the signalling details of the works around both Riverside and Matlock station.

View of Matlock`s Network Rail station, in front of the buffer stops is the trackbed and redundant platform which Peak Rail plan to utilise for the steam service.Beyond the bridge in the distance lies the current terminus of Matlock Riverside. The pointwork which can be seen beyond the platform ramp is part of Network Rail`s new run round loop for charter and engineering trains, which is controlled by the ground frame here released by Derby Power signalbox, and ultimately East Midlands Control Centre which will take over from the powerbox, both Network Rail and Peak Rail will use special operations methods for working between the two stations, this will be elaborated upon once the final documentation is agreed.
