Church Lane Crossing is located a quarter of a mile Rowsley Side of Darley Dale, both Darley Dale and Church Lane are the only two locations upon the former London to Manchester route via the Peak district which have level crossings, the original signalbox was demolished soon after the closure of the original line, the current structure came from nearby Gorsey Bank level crossing on the Wirksworth branch line (now itself a preserved line),and controls the other end of the passing loop at Darley Dale, together with a fine array of Midland Railway lower quadrant signals protecting the crossing,which date from 1927.

Relief signalman Herbert Taylor was the last signalman to work Church Lane (original) signalbox on 29th June 1968 prior to closure, seen photographed by signalman Doug Wood who had worked the early shift that day.(The Rowsley Association)
