As you may have guessed by now my hobby is heritage signalling, im also a volunteer at another railway, the Churnet Valley Railway, on which my involvment in the Froghall and Consall signalling projects set the groundworks for the Darley Dale and Church Lane signalling plans. The following page shows some of the signalling there.
Cheddleton lies at one end of the line is the locomotive engineering shed and yard, the site is controlled by Cheddleton shunt frame, the cabin is worked as a large ground frame, using a Mckenzie and Holland 6A frame, using cam and soldier locking, the shunt frame also releases another ground frame at the far end of the site, the structure came from Elton Crossing near Sandbach and was commisioned in 1985 to work the steam centre, not fully coming on stream till 1994..when the line opened to Leekbrook.
Consall is the passing point on the railway, the signalbox uses the ex upper portion from Clifton crossing on the Ashbourne - Staffs line,a bay window on one end used to allow the signalman good views over the crossing, the frame is a 15 lever Mckenzie and Holland cam and soldier frame using parts from ex-Leigh signalbox, the loop is controlled by one mechanical and one M2 point machine. The bracket signal on approach to the station came courtesy of the GCR from near Mansfield.
Leekbrook Junction signalbox is not used at present, though the structure is listed, there are plans for an extension of the railway to leek and some reuse of the signalbox.
The ex Rushton box, which for many years was at Dinting Railway centre now resides on Froghall station, awaiting its future.
