ROWSLEY SOUTH

Rowsley South is the northern terminus of the line at present and is the location of the new locomotive sheds,turntable, ever expanding carriage and waggon sidings as well as the home of the L.M.S and Heritage Shunters Trust stock depots.

At present Rowsley South is operated signalling wise from two ground frames which control access to the shed and yard to the north end and the sidings to the south end, a third ground frame controls the Parkside points on the Derbyshire Dales Narrow Gauge Railway, this third ground frame will come into use when the runround facility is brought into use on the narrow gauge,the trap point ground frame is currently being installed.The plan in progress is to move the currently unused ex Bamford signalbox which requires repairs and is surplus to Darley Dale`s operational requirements to the north end of the Rowsley site in 2008, which will then be brought into use slowly to control the site,rather than having the structure simply moved and remaining unused. These plans include the ability to have the signalbox worked by traincrew to start with as a shunting frame, and closed out under one train running, then if required to be operated as either a signalbox or passing loop in the future that this can then be staged into the plans as these works progress, the Rowsley extension works will also be covered by the works.An overview of the works include;

Stage 1; bring control of the shed exit points (5,6,8) under control of the frame, the stop board points from the loop are trailable going inside,but require the key to release the point for exiting into the neck and mainline, similar to a method of control previously in use on the Ecclesbourne valley rly.

Stage 2; with the extension beyond Rowsley south, the loop trap and handpoints (9,10&11) will be put onto the frame with a new signal for exiting the loop,basic signalling will be provided for the Rowsley village extension and runround.
